What is a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, or a DVD-RW disc

I would just like to very simply tell you the different disc formats and what they are used for. We are not going to get too technical as it all just gets too confusing.

CD-R: (Compact disc-recorder) This is a normal Compact disc that yo can record information to. Once the disc has been written to it is permanent. CD-R usually hold around 700mb of data
CD-RW: (Compact disc-rewriteable) You can also write data to this compact disc, however this time you can wipe the disc clean and reuse it over and over.
DVD-R: digital Versatile Disc (formally Digital Video Disc) -R was the first DVD to arrive on the scene. A lot of people still use this disc format as their DVD burner drives are only compatible with this type. You can not erase a disc after writing on it. DVD discs usually hold around 4.7gb of data.
DVD+R: Is a newer, more developed DVD disc format which offers a bit more success rate when burning discs. To use these discs. the data is permanently written to the disc.
DVD-RW: This format allows you to erase the data and files from the disc and write more to the disc. Normal home dvd players do not really like rewritable dvd discs.
DVD+RW: You can also re-write onto this type of disc.
DVD+/-R DL: Is a DVD dual or double sided disc. It is not new technology but has only recently been available to the public. DVD movies are often on a dual layer disc. It can hold around 9gb of data.

Notes: 

• To find out what format disc your home DVD player likes, Buy a few different discs in small quantities for testing. My player likes a Sony dvd-R disc.. It does not play a verbatim disc. It also plays DVD+R discs, however it depends on the brand.
• To find out which format your dvd burner is compatible with check its properties. My DVD burner shows DVDRW because it is compatible with nearly every type of disc including CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL. To find the properties right click on the icon in my computer and choose properties from the menu.

• The new Dual layer dvd burners are usually compatible with all disc formats that have previously been made.

তারপর কি হয়?

এরপর যা হয় ওখানকার যেসব নিম্নমানের কোম্পানী এসব ক্রয় করে তারা এগুলোকে আবার বাজারজাত করে বিভিন্ন স্বল্পন্নোত দেশের একশ্রেণীর ব্যাবসায়ীদের মাধ্যমে। আর বাংলাদেশ সহ বিভিন্ন দেশের ব্যাবসায়ীদের এজেন্ট যারা এগুলো ক্রয় করে তারা এগুলোকে সেখানে বিভিন্ন কোম্পানী দ্বারা বা দেশে এনে নিজেরাই একটু আধটু যা সমস্যা থাকে তা ঠিকঠাক করে বিভিন্ন মনগড়া ব্রান্ডের নাম দেয়। আমি যে অফিসে ঘটনাক্রমে গিয়েছিলাম সেখানে দেখলাম একটি টিভির সামনে একটি নামকরা ব্রান্ডের স্টীকার লাগিয়ে দেয়া হল এবং ভেতরে খুললে যেন ঐ ব্রান্ডের নাম দেখায় তাও করে দেয়া হল কিছু কারসাজি দিয়ে!!!

শুধু কি তাই?

আমি যার সাথে কথা বলছিলাম তাকে বললাম যেটা করছেন এটা কি ঠিক হচ্ছে? কারন আপনারা যা মানুষকে দিচ্ছেন তা তো ব্যাবহারের অযোগ্য বলে ফেলা দেয়া হয়েছিল। উত্তরে সে বলল আমরা তো তাও আমাদের নিজের দেয়া নামে বাজারজাত করি কিন্তু অনেকে আবার কি করে জানেন? আমি বললাম কি করে? সে বলল অনেকে এগুলো হূবুহূ বিভিন্ন নামকরা ব্রান্ডের নামে তাদের মত কেসিং দিয়ে বাজারজাত করে। আমি বললাম তাহলে তো ভাল পণ্যের ওয়ারেন্টি কার্ড তারপর ম্যানুয়াল থাকে এগুলো কোথায় পায়? উত্তরে সে জানাল এগুলো তারা নিজেরাই পুরাতন ঢাকার বিভিন্ন প্রেসে ছাপিয়ে নেয়। আমি তার কথা বিশ্বাষ না করতে চাওয়াতে সে নোকিয়ার একটি সেট বের করে দেখাল যার মোড়ক, ওয়ারেন্টি কার্ড এবং ম্যানুয়াল সবই স্থানীয় প্রেসে ছাপানো!!!

আমি তাকে আরো জিজ্ঞাসা করলাম যে তাদের কখনো কোন আইনি জটিলতায় পড়তে হয় কিনা? উত্তরে সে নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে জানায় যে তাদের বসের বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক প্রভাবশালী ব্যাক্তিদের সাথে সম্পর্ক আছে তাছাড়া থানা পুলিশকেও তাড়া নিয়মিত মাসোহারা প্রদান করে তাই সবদিক থেকেই তারা ধরা ছোয়ার বাইরে আর এভাবেই কতৃত্ব করে যাচ্ছে স্থানীয় বাজারে আর বাজার সয়লাব করে ফেলছে এসব নকল পণ্যে।

Today tip about formatting your Hard disk partitions. When you ready to format you partitions,you have two methods to format a partition, you can work with default formatting and other quick format method.

When you first time format your system partition, you should use default method. This is slow and low-level formatting but with this method you can remove all data from the partition as well as the hard disk is scanned for bad sectors. Here you can fix your system bad sectors.

If you select the quick format method, you can save time but you can remove only data from the partition and does not scan the disk for bad sectors. If you sure about your hard disk health then quick format should be fine to remove data with in short time.

◙Grameen Phone Modemএ প্রয়োজনে অন্য অপারেটরের সিম ব্যাবহার করে ইন্টারনেট চালানো সম্ভব। এ জন্য প্রথমেই মডেমটি পিসিতে লাগান। এরপর ইন্সটল করুন। ইন্সটল শেষ হলে সফটওয়ারটি ওপেন করে টুলস মেনু থেকে অপশন এ যান। সেখানে নিচের দিকে থাকা প্রোফাইল ম্যানেজমেন্ট নির্বাচন করুন। দেখবেন Default Profile Name: GP-INTERNET নির্বাচন করা আছে। এখন অন্য অপারেটরের ইন্টারনেট ব্যাবহার করতে নতুন Profile তৈরি করতে ডান পাশের পেনেল হতে New নির্বাচন করুন। এরপর ♦ Robi: Robi (রবির জন্যঃ): যারা রবি সিম ব্যাবহার করতে চাইছেন তারা Profile Name: ROBI-INTERNET লিখুন।APN Static নির্বাচন করে internet লিখুন। Access Number *99***1# লিখুন । OK করে মেনু থেকে বেরিয়ে আসুন। এখন মডেমে একটেল সিম দিয়ে গ্রামীণফোন মডেমের সঙ্গে ডিফল্ট Software-এর প্রথম Form(connection) থেকে Profile Name: ROBI-INTERNET নির্বাচন করে Connect ক্লিক করুন। এইতো! হয়ে যাবে আপনার রবি ইন্টারনেট কানেকশন। ♦ Airtel: Airtel(এয়ারটেল এর জন্যঃ): যারা এয়ারটেল সিম ব্যাবহার করতে চাইছেন তারা Profile Name: AIRTEL-INTERNET টাইপ করুন। APN Static নির্বাচন করে internet লিখুন। Access Number *99***1# লিখুন। OK করে মেনু থেকে বের হয়ে যান। এখন মডেমে এয়ারতেল সিম দিয়ে গ্রামীনফোন মডেমের সঙ্গে সংযুক্ত ডিফল্ট Software এর প্রথম  Form(connection) থেকে Profile Name: AIRTEL-INTERNET নির্বাচন করে Connect ক্লিক করুন।

What is thumbs.db and How to Delete thumbs.db

We all are always worried about viruses. Usually a virus can damage files, folders. So, we always try to clean our computer, by manually deleting some selected files or folders, which we understand that those are viruses or may be harmful and or using anti virus. I was always considered and treated thumbs.db as a virus because it use to create thumbs.db  file automatically as soon as delete the file. However there are still many people who are new to computer world and may treat it as virus or as a strange act.

What is thumbs.db file?

Thumbs.db is always created on an image file or image folder. Thumbs.db is a thumbnail cache file which is used to store thumbnail images for Windows Explorer’s thumbnail view. Actually thumbs.db speeds up the image display as the smaller images do not need to be recalculated every time the user views the folder.

Basically, when you view images folder in thumbnail, you would see images showing in small preview (Thumbnail).This thumbnail information is saved in thumbs.db file in the same folder. So, next time when you visit the same image folder in thumbnail, you would see thumbnail images displaying very fast. Thumbnail cache file speed up the showing of thumbnails when you are viewing a folder in thumbnail view.

Note: The Thumbnail cache file is a hidden file. Go to My computer >> Tools >> Folder options >> Go to View Taband put a tick on “Show hidden files and folder”.

Disadvantages of thumbs.db:

Though it seems to be very useful and helpful but may not be good for computer with low disk space. thumbs.db file takes up disk space, although the file size or space taken by thumbnail cache will be small. Suppose for 5-6 images in a folder may create thumbs.db of 7-8 kb. Folder with 500-700 images may create thumbs.db with file size of 800-900kb(Approx 1mb).If your pc have lots of such thumbs.db file on hard disk which have low disk space, you can save some valuable space on your hard disk by removing the thumbnail cache file (thumbs.db).

You might have seen when we remove or delete this thumbs.db file, it automatically created again. So, we need to turn off this thumbnail cache feature.

How to Remove thumbs.db

Open My Computer or any folder

Click on Tools (on the top and on menu bar)

Click on Folder Options. If you don’t find Folder Options, it may be deleted by virus. You can Restore Folder Options in Tool Menu, Disabled by Virus.

Go to view tab

Put a tick on “Do Not Cache thumbnails”, click Apply and Ok.

From this thumbs.db will never be created. But there are some thumbs.db files are on your computer those are already created. To delete all thumbs.db file from hard disk, we would search the files and then delete those files from hard disk.

Go to start, Search

Click on “All files and Folder”

On the “All or part of the file name” box write thumbs.db and on the Look in box select all “Local Hard Drives” and click on search.

You would see lots of thumbs.db files. Select all files and delete all.

By Turning off the thumbnail cache feature will not affect viewing in thumbnail. This Tip is handy for computer with low hard disk space.

Make custom keyboard shortcuts for Windows 7

There are lots of places in one’s computer that one might navigate to. With the increasing sizes of hard drives and increase in your data storage capacity such place are also increasing and your computer is turning into a confusing labyrinth of unused data. All of this makes it difficult to get to a place you want to go. You have to browse your computer and have to go over a series of clicking and double clicking to reach the destination folder… its frustrating I know!

But you will never have to go through that excruciating ordeal ever again if you know how to make customized key board shortcuts for the folders that you use most.

Following is a 6-step easy method to create your personal customized keyboard shortcuts for Windows 7 so you don’t waste time browsing through, getting lost then again finding your way through your computer:

• Navigate to the folder (for the last time!) you want to create the shortcut for.
• Create a shortcut of the folder on your desktop by doing these steps

Right-click > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)

• Find the Shortcut folder on the desktop. It will be named as Shortcut to {Folder name}.Go to the Shortcut tab in its properties by doing the following steps:

Right-click > Properties > Shortcut

OR

Alt + Enter (It will take you directly to the Shortcut tab of your folder’s shortcut)

• Now locate the field labeled Shortcut key. Here you can select your shortcut keys.
  As shortcut keys are used by several other applications so your folder has to have a shortcut key that is unique to it. Shortcut keys can be made by using any key (except for Esc, Enter, Space, Tab, Delete, Context Menu Button and Windows button) in combinations with Ctrl + Shift, Ctrl + Alt and Shift + Alt keys.
• Test your shortcut keys on a clear desktop first to see if they are vacant or already in use.
• When you have decided the combination put it in the Shortcut key field in the right order (windows will help you with it).
  Apply the settings and hit OK. Test your shortcut key to see if its works

DONOT delete the Shortcut of the folder from the desktop or your shortcut key will stop working.

If you want to avoid clutter on your desktop due to such shortcuts then hide them by selecting the shortcut and following these steps:
Right-Click > Properties > General > (Check) Hidden > OK

How to Sync Google+ Posts with Twitter and Facebook

There are three  major social networking sites Twitter, Facebook and Google+, for self socializing we have to open at least three accounts on those major social networking sites. Almost we have accounts, but our time becomes too much costly. To maintain those accounts is very time consuming. That’s why I was searching option for syncing those three accounts. At last I got solution on online tech tips, which I am going to share with you.

Syncing Google+ activities with Twitter and Facebook is available for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browser using G++ extension. Ok, let’s go!

How to Sync Google+ Posts with Twitter and Facebook

Please go to GPlusPlus.me

G++ will automatically detect your browser, will say Add to Chrome or Add to Firefox on green button with orange background. Click on Add to Chrome or Add to Firefox. I am Google Chrome, for Firefox there will be some changes, but activities will more or less same.

A message will appear in your browser warning that installing browser extensions can be dangerous. Click Continue. Firefox will require for restart.

Another window asked if you are sure you want to install G++. Click Install.

Now, log into Google+ at the top of the page will be a place where you can make one post and it will sync with Twitter, Facebook and Google+. You can upload pictures and links, and even check in. Check the boxes on the bottom row to post to the networks of your choice.

Check the boxes on the top row to stream your Twitter and Facebook feeds to your Google+ stream. You will need to give G++ permission to access each network to stream them.

Scroll through your G+ stream to see posts from your Facebook friends and the people you follow on Twitter. Tweets appear in light green, while status updates appear in blue.

If you are comfortable with using Google+, then G++ is a good tool for managing all three social networks from one place. Many of us are not yet comfortable enough with Google+ to use it as our main communication interface for social networking, but a tool like this may inspire us to try. Overall, if you are using all three social networks, G++ is worth downloading.
